RECIPE BOOK: FOOD PHOTOGRAPHY AND ILLUSTRATION - SHAKE IT UP!

This assignment requires us to choose a particular theme of food, then three different food items are to be photographed creatively. Once finalised, all ingredients must be digitally illustrated, and they must have a consistent graphic style. As an end product, both the photographs and illustrations should be made into a book, accompanied with the recipe details to be turned into a physical recipe book.

To start off, I decided to turn my kitchen into a studio. A black paper is placed on the back of the scene for a dark background. A wooden cutting board is also used as the base. A few plate coasters were stacked on top of each other to elevate the cutting board to prevent the table surface to be in frame.

I do not personally own a camera flash, so I used a long LED light bar instead and put a large piece of tracing paper in front of the light bar to diffuse out the light making the shadows softer. The empty glass was used to test out the lighting and shadows cast around the glass.

With all that done, I used Adobe Lightroom for the post editing process. The final 3 pictures were shot in very similar lighting condition and angles. This means that they all require more or less the same editing processes.
